504 Workshop | Walsh Intermediate School

Dr. Margaret Generali

Chairperson, Department of Counseling and School Psychology - SCSU

"Most recently, Zahra completed her internship at Branford Intermediate School. There she “hit the ground running”, providing much-needed support to the student body."

Kristin Manghnani

7th School Counselor

Walsh Intermediate School

“I feel there are many skills I can teach a new counselor to improve their craft.  However, one of the things I cannot teach is the ability to develop rapport.  It is a quality that most impressed me in Zahra.”

Natalia Arboleda

HS School Counselor

Wilbur Cross  High School

“Zahra was quick to adapt to the climate and culture of Wilbur Cross. We serve an extremely diverse student body, but in the short time that she was interning, she demonstrated the ability to assess each one’s needs and build an organic rapport. The students on her caseload adapted to Zahra extremely well; they would frequently ask for her on days that she was not assigned to be at school.”

SUMMARY STATEMENT

I am graduating this May 2024 with my Sixth Year Degree in school counseling from Southern Connecticut State University. I am writing to express my interest in the School Counseling position at Adams Middle School.   My background is in teaching, primarily as a middle school Language Arts teacher.   I have 10 years of teaching experience, which includes teaching as a professor at the University of Cincinnati.  I was an Associate Director of Career Education and taught career education courses at the university level. In addition, I was a director of a private middle school in Rhode Island.  Before transitioning into education, I was a marketing manager at PepsiCo.  Throughout my career, I have gained skills in teaching, career advising, counseling, and successfully collaborating with parents, teachers, administration, and students.  These skills are essential for success in the role of a school counselor.

Casey Sierra, M.Ed.

Adjunct Professor | Supervisor

SCSU

". In a short period of time, Zahra was able to build a meaningful relationship with this student, who felt comfortable opening up about her past experiences. Zahra's empathy, patience, and genuine concern for her students' well-being were instrumental in creating a supportive environment where the student felt heard and understood."
